What’s this project about?

We're studying the effects of seawater on the human microbiome. To do so, we take human faecal samples to analyse.

You’re probably on our page because you saw our poster, and you’d love to pass us a sample in exchange for some grocery savings ;)

It’s a little awkward, but we’ll work through it.

Am I eligible?

Seawater Exposure

You’re out in the ocean a lot around Singapore and have swallowed your fair share of seawater.

No Antibiotics

You haven’t taken any antibiotics in 30 days or more. Other supplements and medications are fine :)

Household Members

You have members of your household who are also willing to donate samples…you know, in exchange for some cash.

What’re you going to do with my samples?

We’ll freeze most of it, and for some we’ll be culturing it - that really means we’ll be mixing your poop into some agar and letting it grow.

After that, we’ll sequence the genomes. Your gut has all sorts of microbes in it - we want to see what’s there in yours!

Unfortunately we won’t be able to disseminate individual data, but we’ll post results on this page so you can see our findings!

How do I get started?

It’s a three-step process that’s super simple:

  1. Fill out our form.

  2. If you’re eligible, donate your sample.

  3. We’ll give you a $100 NTUC voucher for every sample - up to $200 per household, as we’d love a ‘control’ sample from a family member of yours.
